This special package is built for keen wildlife travellers. Alongside the orangutans, the focus turns to white-handed gibbons and, when the season allows, the enormous Rafflesia — the largest flower on Earth.

Your guide plans routes around the best current chances, blending deeper trekking with patient observation.

Itinerary

• Day 1
  Pickup from the airport or your hotel in Medan and transfer to Bukit Lawang, with time to settle in.
• Day 2
  Set off on the 2D/1N jungle trek into Gunung Leuser to observe wild orangutans and other wildlife in their natural habitat, with a night at a riverside jungle camp.
• Day 3
  More trekking and wildlife watching, then a traditional tube-rafting float back to the village. Overnight at your hotel.
• Day 4
  A full day around Batu Katak for gibbon watching and searching for the giant Rafflesia or the Amorphophallus titanum (titan arum), in season. Return to your hotel for the night.
• Day 5
  Transfer back to Kualanamu airport or your hotel in Medan.
